The Invasion, Rise of Evil Series # 2, UPDATED ON 9/16/08

THE INVASION:
The Rise of Aliens

Chapter 1: Legs

“Hello, I’m looking for that secret genetics lab. Have you heard anything? I have to investigate it,” I said to the Jeep driver. “Do you know anything about what happened there?” I inquired.
“Nothing except it happened only a week ago,” said he.
I jumped out. Looked around. A figure was moving toward me.
“Hi.”
He jumped, then gave me some kind of grim expression.
“Hello, teenager.”
Oh, come on! I feel like the Scooby Doo teenagers.
“Have you heard anything about the incident at the, y’know, secret lab?”
He smiled coldly.
“I worked in the building. It was like a bomb being deployed underneath us. The whole building shook. Rykov (the manager) Riley (most trusted employee) and I (CEO) investigated it outside, but when we came back, all of our employees were gone.”
“Wow.”
“Yes, ‘wow’.”
He started to follow me. As we I walked down the dunes, peering through the sun for any sign of a building, I saw a ditch. “What happened there?” I asked.
He gave another cold smile.
“We have no idea.”
“Who are you?”
“I’m Riley’s older brother, Lexus Moorkuhn.”
I whipped around. “I should have noticed the clues! Related to a genetic lab, the same cold smile, calling me a teenager, and the grim recognition!”
“Yes, teenager.”
“I guess I can’t shake you off, huh?!”
“No, teenager.”
Lexus and I soon found another ditch close enough to the path that we could see inside it. It had a bizarre cobalt-blue…thing inside that looked like an upside-down trapezoid with SETI satellite dishes on it. “What’s that?!!” I said angrily. “I told you, we have no idea.” Soon, we found what seemed to be the entrance to the lab. I went inside sulkily. Lexus followed. His nose got stuck in the automatic-closing door. I had to suppress a laugh. I always thought his knife-like nose was too big.

About 50 feet into the lab, there was a loud CRASH, and a fierce shaking. I checked on Lexus, who had been trailing behind me, and was greeted by a wall of rocks, stretching to the high ceiling. Great. Good riddance.

That’s when I noticed the large, shining supercomputer, right in front of the rock fall. I touched the screen experimentally. The computer wheezed a computer wheeze, like it had been left on but not used. It started showing me a film that went something like this.

The camera jiggled a little, and captured some form of movement out of a bay window. Then, a deafening reverberation and a violent jerk of the camera signified an explosion. Another glance at the bay window caused a video double take. There was a large ditch that was not there a second before. Then, strange, purple creatures started pouring out of the ditch. The supercomputer next to the person holding the camera beeped frantically. 31— no, 32 messages, all at once, all saying the same thing, “They’re aliens! Coming out of a UFO! They’re attacking the base!”
Then, the strange purple creatures appeared at the glass door of the person holding the camera.
After that, the screen went black, then blue, to show nothing else was recorded.

“Yikes,” I whispered out loud.
About ten minutes later, it hit me that I had a camera, and I hadn’t photographed the thing in the ditch. There was a way to get past that rock fall. I had dynamite, and some cherry bombs, and a gun. But, if Lexus was still alive, I would kill him if I blasted the rocks.
So what? thought the bad side of my mind.
Or, I could destroy the wall.
And that’s what I did. I used a cherry bomb, and walked out to the desert. The ditch was still there, but the thing wasn’t! Okay… so that was the UFO… it must’ve flown away, I thought. It then struck me that Lexus was only blocked off of the main lab…he was right in front of the entrance. He could’ve gotten out! I checked the hallway, but nothing was there.
There was a splash behind me, and a pool of silvery substance appeared in front of me.
It looked like silver sour milk, and seemed to glow. I touched it. My feet left the ground, and my body was thrown into the pool. All was black… until… there was light, warm sunshine shining over a hillside.

Chapter 2: Ages
I, managing all my strength, got up.
The first thing I saw was a man in his early 20’s and a man in his mid-40’s, looking curiously at me.
I thought I had appeared out of nowhere in their eyes, so I started, “I can explain—” but one man stopped me, “Don’t bother. I see you found a teleporting pool. It was strange though, because nobody’s seen one since the incident at the genetics lab.” “Sorry we haven’t introduced ourselves,” said the other one, who looked like James Bond. “I’m James Bond,” he said. The other one said, “And I’m Scott--” Thunder overhead. “—v.” “
Scott—whatever—had pure-ice irises with a blue tint. His mud brown hair had wild, spiky bangs. His chin was clean shaven, as well as his nose, but he had gigantic sideburns. The collar on his white lab coat was up. Oddest of all, the index finger on his left hand was pure white with a black, talon-like fingernail.
“Where am I?”
“Oh, and James Bond… wow. Wait… Where’s Dr. No?”
“Oh, let’s just say it’s a genetics lab,” said Scott. “No—!” I started, but Mr. Spy silenced me with a glare. He leaned over and whispered in my ear: “I have a plan.” This (coming from him, at least) reassured me.
Scott took off for the nearest gate, probably the entrance to the lab. “Welcome,” he said, opening the gate with a flourish, “to the Headquarters!” I nodded at Bond, and he pulled out a cigarette lighter. Never leave home without it, mouthed Mr. Sneaky. He lit The Gate of Doom. The fire virus spread across all of the wooden-stick-pole fence segments. Scott whirled around. “NOOOO! RYKOV WILL NOT BE DEFEATED THIS EASILY!!!” he yelled. Rykov? This guy was Rykov?
He spun around and jumped into the teleporting pool behind us. It started to flicker. “Hurry!” I yelled to James, and together we jumped into the pool.

I’d read about the consequences of time and space travel in Eoin Colfer’s Artemis Fowl books. I hoped I wouldn’t switch a finger or something. I realized that space travel changed the location of body parts, and time travel changed the age.

Nothing happened to me, but my adrenaline glands were fully charged. I betted that that would come in handy later.
James was nowhere to be seen.
Rykov was gone too.
I looked around.
I was in the lab again.
THERE WAS A PURPLE BEING IN FRONT OF ME!!!!

“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Oh, phew. It was a hologram.

I turned around. There was a mirror behind me. Oh moviemonsters.
I looked the same as I had when I was 15.
I thought.
“Oh, god. This is heavy…” Then, I must’ve traveled back in time!!!
