At Raising California Homeschool, we believe that our children should be encouraged to follow their interests...

California loves art, so he has an easel set up with watercolors available 24 hours a day. He is never without paint, a paintbrush or paper. He chose to demonstrate his love of numbers today and his fascination with rainbows.

This is a great example of how math can be taught in a creative and sensory rich way, so that a child who is artistically gifted can find meaning and pleasure in learning.

After California painted this rainbow, we talked about the seven colors of the rainbow and then I wrote the word rainbow at the top of his paper. I showed him how too words are put together to make one word...this is an excellent way to incorporate spelling and language arts in a way that honors the whole child.
