George Washington was one of the most important figures in America's past, as the first ever President of the United States. As well as the general who led the victory against the British in the last battle of the Revolutionary War. He was born into a wealthy family that owned a tobacco farm. He was homeschooled until his father and brother died, then joined the colonial forces. He was fit for the job, and eventually rose in ranks until driving the British out in 1776 as commander-in-chief. After work on the Declaration of Independence, Washington became one of the colonial "leaders," people who were looked up to but really had no power. After a while, he was picked to be the first president, for his calm demeanor and excellent performance in the war. His president ship cleaned up the country, founded a capital city, created many schools, and sorted out all the dulled feeling that came during the war. He is ranked as one of the top three presidents by many scholars.
