3. Learn about Fair Trade Chocolate

A copy of the letter written to Hershey's Chocolate Company by Tennessee:

I am writing to tell everyone at the Hershey company about Fair Trade chocolate. Fair Trade is a special policy that produces child labor-free, slavery-free chocolate, meaning children were not forced to pick the cocoa pods and beans, and that all induviduals that pick the beans were paid fully and fairly.
It makes me sad when I read about how kids in South America and Africa aren't able to play or learn because they are picking cocoa beans all day. It makes me sad that they do that all their life and not get anything for it. It makes me think about how easy my life is compared to theirs.

I am not accusing you of doing this, but if you are, please sell Fair Trade chocolate to stop it!
Thank you,

Poetry

The Swing

How do you like to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!

Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
River and trees and cattle and all
Over the countryside--

Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown--
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!

Earth Day Poem

Earth Day
By E. G. Lenac

Nature is in danger
With something no ranger
can stop
With a cop
The ice is melting
And the heat is sweltering
If the trees fail out
Aginst this Carbon bout
of Earth-Sickness
The quickness
of
the destruction
of Nature
will
increase
And our saftey will cease
And we will cough and wheeze
We must help
Nature fight the
coming storm,
which some have sworn
to fight,
like Nature's knights
And if those succeed
Nature will need
them to keep it up
for it will stop kids saying "S'up?"
"Why aren't you helping the earth?"

English Lesson 36 Poetry

Christmas by E.G. Lenac
In this joyous time of year
A tear
Falls from your cheek
As the old and the meek
Gather peacefully in the center of town
And look into the brown
Of an old tree’s bark
And sing ’till the old start to cough and hark
And when the shining stars twinkle
And the leaves start to crinkle
Under your feet
It means that justice and joy are no giant feat
Because the joyous time is near
At the end of the year.

English Lesson 15: Poetry

The Day, by E.G. Lenac

The day is a slow snail
Not stopping to hail
Passersby and friends
Trudging around the bends
But soon the day has reached journey’s end

And it is night, who passes the next bend.
