Rykov:
Evil Makes a Comeback
Prologue:
Setting:
A small village. Everyone had strangely disappeared the night before and left the village feeling rather cold and empty. There are two people walking towards a store. They are Soldier # 1 and Soldier # 2.
Soldier # 2: It’s creepy over here. And there’s that strange laboratory up the road.
*Roar in distance*
Soldier # 1: What the h*** was that?!
Soldier # 2: I wish I knew.
Soldier # 1: Hey! My cellphone is picking up a signal!
*Cellphone beeps, ‘Rykov, Rykov, Rykov…’*
Soldier # 1: *Sighs* I think it’s time check out the shop.
Soldier # 2: You go first.
*Soldier # 1 obeys*
*Soldier # 1 screams*
Soldier # 2: Jane?! What’s happening?! Wait for me!
*Soldier # 2 goes inside the store*
Soldier # 2: What’s the matt--AAAAAAAAAAAHHH!
*CRASH*
Chapter 1: “Everything’s Back!”
It’s a nice day. No missions to UFO crash sites or mad-scientist labs, just fun in the sun at the park, I thought.
I was so happy that I didn’t notice the three women sitting and gossiping on a bench. That is, until one said, “…and his cellphone beeped and started saying ‘Rykov’ over and over…”
I whipped around. I had figured out by now that Rykov meant that either mutants or mad scientists were at work. And, as I would soon find out, more ghastly aliens.
“Rykov?” I said innocently.
“Oh yes,” said the middle lady, “This is the text of the exact chain of events.”
She gave me a small document.
It read:
Soldier # 2: It’s creepy over here. And there’s that strange laboratory up the road.
*Roar in distance*
Soldier # 1: What the h*** was that?!
Soldier # 2: I wish I knew.
Soldier # 1: Hey! My cellphone is picking up a signal!
*Cellphone beeps, ‘Rykov, Rykov, Rykov…’*
Soldier # 1: *Sighs* I think it’s time check out the shop.
Soldier # 2: You go first.
*Soldier # 1 obeys*
*Soldier # 1 screams*
Soldier # 2: Jane?! What’s happening?! Wait for me!
*Soldier # 2 goes inside the store*
“Oh no,” I said.
“What?” said the lady on the left.
I explained my life’s work, from the investigation of Oslane Swamp when I was 17, then the vacation on Mysterious Island when I was 18, and finally the alien war I experienced two months before.
The lady on the right gasped.
“B-but, Oslane Swamp now has had more disappearances!”
“And there’s an island in the Pacific that sounds like Mysterious Island, and whole ships disappear when passing by!” the lady on the left put in.
“And, you know the soldiers in the document? They were in a village. Everyone had disappeared overnight!” added the lady in the middle.
“The aliens are back,” I groaned.
That night I got on a plane to Oslane Swamp in Texas.
When I got off, I rented a van and drove to the dusty lot that I had gotten a Jeep ride on. In place of the station was a huge pile of rubble and a few broken cars.
I shrugged and jogged up a hill.
One look down the hill told me that the Demons were back, as well as their leader, Typhon, the mutated Rottweiler. The spectral, gigantic black dog was patrolling the hill opposite to me, and black, gorilla-like shapes were dragging slabs of meat toward it.
I was pleased to see that Typhon looked much slimmer, and that there was a bullet hole in one of his four ears. For a second I thought he glared at me out of his pupil-less red eye, but then he blinked and looked instead at the Shadow Demons, which were still dragging chunks of meat up the hill.
I decided to check out Mysterious Island before I dealt with the Demons and Typhon.
At four o’clock I got on a plane to Mysterious Island.
I looked down and saw millions of white-and-red shapes.
I gulped.
